Adult Psychology & Counselling

Cast off the burden and discover the happier, healthier you. Whatever you are carrying, you do not have to carry it on your own.

Whatever you are carrying, you do not have to carry it on your own.

Our experienced team provides compassionate, evidence-based therapy for adults, with thoughtful therapist matching to help you find the right person and approach for you.

Why choose Unburden for your therapy?

Life can become heavy. Ongoing worry, stress, low mood, grief, trauma, big life changes or simply feeling stuck can wear you down over time.

Our team of experienced psychologists, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors is here to help you understand what you are going through and find a way forward that genuinely fits your life.

We are calm, genuine and understanding, and we are evidence-based practitioners, which means we use therapies that have been shown to help. We see adults of all ages, and we take the time to match you with the right person and the right approach for you.

Experienced practitioners

Our team includes experienced psychologists, clinical psychologists, registrars, psychotherapists and counsellors with a wide range of areas of interest and experience.

The right therapist for you

You don't need to work out who to see on your own. We take the time to understand what you need and thoughtfully match you with the right therapist.

A calm, supportive environment

Your sessions take place in a private, welcoming and unhurried space where you can talk openly and feel heard.

Evidence-based therapy

We draw on established therapeutic approaches and tailor therapy to your individual circumstances, goals and needs.

Individual & Group Therapy

Most of our work is one-on-one individual therapy, giving you private time and space to work through what is happening in your life. For select clients, we may also offer group therapy, which can be a supportive way to learn alongside others facing similar challenges. If group therapy could suit you, let us know and we can talk it through and be in touch when a suitable group is forming.

What can we help with?

You don't need to know exactly what kind of therapy you need before contacting us. You may simply know that something doesn't feel right, life has become difficult, or you're ready for something to change.

Getting started is simple

Request an appointment

Send us your appointment request and a member of our team will contact you if we need any additional information to get you booked in.

We'll thoughtfully match you

We'll consider what you're experiencing, your goals and our team's areas of interest to match you with the therapist we believe will be the best fit, together with the earliest suitable availability.

Begin your sessions

We initially book you in for three weekly sessions. Having your first three appointments close together helps you and your therapist get to know each other and build momentum early in therapy.

Once you are underway, your sessions may not need to remain weekly. You and your therapist can determine a rhythm that suits your needs and your therapist's recommendations.

And if at any time you feel another therapist may be a better fit, simply let us know. We will happily help you make the change.

Unburden Psychology _ Brisbane Psychology _ Therapy and support from experienced professio

A calm place to feel supported

We want coming to therapy to feel as comfortable as possible from the moment you arrive. Your sessions are held in a private, calm and welcoming environment, with the time and space to talk without feeling rushed.

When you arrive, we'll offer you a complimentary tea or coffee. There is also a cafe downstairs if you would like to arrive a little early, grab something to drink and take a moment to settle in before your appointment.

It's a small thing, but we believe the environment surrounding therapy matters too.

Therapy tailored to you

There isn't one type of therapy that works for everyone.

Your therapist will draw on evidence-based approaches based on what you're experiencing, your goals and what is most appropriate for you.

You don't need to know which therapy you need before you book, that's something your therapist can help determine with you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Helps you recognise and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Helps you develop greater psychological flexibility and take meaningful action in line with your values.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Builds practical skills for managing difficult emotions, relationships and distress.

Schema Therapy

Explores longstanding patterns and beliefs that can influence how you feel, behave and relate to others.

EMDR

A structured therapeutic approach often used to help people process traumatic or distressing experiences.

Mindfulness-Based Approaches

Develop skills to become more aware of thoughts, emotions and experiences without automatically reacting to them.

Do I need a referral?

No. You do not need a referral to see us and are welcome to book privately.

Fees, Medicare & Referrals

We want the practical side of starting therapy to be clear too.

Can I claim a Medicare rebate?

If you have a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for eligible psychology sessions.

How much are sessions?

Our fees vary depending on the practitioner you see. Current session fees, Medicare rebate information and details about other funding options are available on our Fees & Rebates page.
