Couples Therapy at Unburden Psychology

Every relationship goes through difficult periods. Sometimes it’s a specific issue that keeps coming up. Other times, it’s a gradual sense of disconnection, frustration, or feeling stuck in patterns that don’t seem to shift.

At Unburden Psychology, we offer a flexible, structured approach to couples therapy — so you can choose the level of support that feels right for you.

Whether you’re looking for a single session to gain clarity, a deeper understanding of your relationship, or ongoing support to create lasting change, we can meet you where you are.

A flexible approach to support

Not every couple needs the same level of intervention. That’s why we offer three stages of support — allowing you to engage as much or as little as you need.

Part 1: Initial Assessment & Relationship Mapping

A structured 90-minute session designed to help you both step back and understand what’s really happening in your relationship.
Each partner has dedicated space to talk about:

  • What’s working well

  • What feels difficult or painful

  • What you’d like to change

Together, we begin identifying key patterns and dynamics, bringing clarity to issues that may have felt confusing or stuck.
For some couples, this session alone provides enough insight and direction to begin making meaningful changes.

Fee: $442.50 (Payable on the day, non-refundable)

Part 2: In-Depth Assessment & Personalised Roadmap

For couples wanting a deeper, more tailored understanding, this phase builds a comprehensive picture of your relationship and provides a clear path forward.

This part includes:

  • An in-depth individual questionnaire for each partner

  • A 45-minute confidential individual session (per partner)

  • A 45-minute joint feedback session

In your feedback session, your therapist will:

  • Highlight relationship strengths

  • Identify areas of strain and recurring patterns

  • Provide a clear, personalised roadmap for moving forward

This ensures that any ongoing therapy is focused, evidence-informed, and tailored specifically to your relationship.
For some couples, this level of insight is enough. For others, it becomes the foundation for deeper ongoing work.
Fee: $930 (Paid in advance, non-refundable. The fee includes all components and therapist preparation time)

Parts 1 and 2 can also be booked together as a package.

Part 3: Ongoing Couples Therapy

Ongoing sessions focus on helping you implement real, practical changes in your relationship.
Together, we work on:

  • Improving communication

  • Navigating conflict more effectively

  • Rebuilding trust

  • Strengthening emotional connection

Sessions are guided by your personalised roadmap, ensuring that the work stays relevant, targeted, and meaningful.

Fee: $290 per session (45–50 minutes)

Our Approach

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model. Our therapists strive to ensure both partners are heard and their opinions respected, and that the couple choose how much therapist support they would like.
Some couples want a short, focused intervention. Others are navigating more complex or longstanding challenges. Many fall somewhere in between.
Our role is to provide the right level of structure, insight, and support without overcomplicating the process.

  • Sessions available at both Graceville and Rocklea

  • Male and female therapists available

  • In-person appointments, out of hours possible

Taking the First Step

If you’re unsure where to start, the initial assessment session is often the best place.
It gives you both the space to be heard, and a clearer sense of what’s happening and what might help.
