Groups and workshops

Workshops are paid in full at booking, are refundable up to 7 days before, and can be transferred to another person or date up to 48 hours before. Group programs are paid in full upfront and are closed after the first session. You can transfer to a future group before the first session, but fees are non-refundable once it starts. If you've attended a matching workshop in the previous 90 days, you'll receive a $75 credit off the group. If a group or workshop doesn't reach minimum numbers, we'll offer you a credit or a full refund.

For Referrers

Thank you for considering Unburden Psychology & More for someone in your care. Most of our referrals come from GPs, but we also welcome referrals from psychiatrists, paediatricians, other health professionals, schools, employers, and family and friends.

Referring someone to us

You don't need to be a GP to refer someone to us. With the person's consent, you're welcome to email their details and a brief summary of what they need help with to Hello@UnburdenPsych.au, and our team will be in touch with them. Or you can simply pass on our details and they can contact us directly on (07) 3137 1553.

If you need any more information before making a referral, please get in touch. We're always happy to talk through whether we're the right fit.

Why refer to Unburden

  • Highly skilled psychologists working with children, adolescents, adults and couples.

  • Flexible care pathways: individual therapy supported by group programs, workshops and seminars where appropriate.

  • Support while waiting: patients can join a group or workshop while waiting for their preferred therapist.

  • Psychology & More: integrated care with our dietitian, clinical naturopath and acupuncturist under the same roof.

  • Assessments: ADHD, autism, cognitive and learning disorder assessments for children and adults.

  • Practical logistics: two locations, Graceville and Rocklea, plus telehealth for established clients.

  • Collaborative: clear, timely communication and written reports to referrers.

Information for GPs

How to refer

  • Refer to "Unburden Psychology" and we'll help your patient choose the best-matched psychologist, or refer to a specific psychologist and we'll do our best to accommodate.

  • Please include both individual and group sessions on your referral, so your patient has flexible care options.

  • Email or fax the Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and referral to us (details below).

Better Access quick reference
  • Mental Health Treatment Plan: required before referral. The MHTP itself is not a referral, so please also include a written referral.

  • Who can refer: the GP at the patient's MyMedicare practice, or their usual GP. Psychiatrists and paediatricians can also refer directly.

  • Eligibility: patients with a diagnosed mental disorder who need at least moderate support (excluding dementia and delirium).

  • Sessions: up to 10 individual and 10 group sessions per calendar year.

  • Courses of treatment: refer for an initial course of up to 6 sessions. After the patient is reviewed, refer for the remaining sessions. We'll send you a written report at the end of each course.

  • Referral content: patient name, date of birth and address, symptoms or diagnosis, current medications, the number of sessions, and whether an MHTP has been prepared. Group sessions must be stated explicitly on the referral.

  • Patient choice: referrals aren't tied to a named provider, so your patient can see any eligible psychologist. We're happy to talk with your patient and recommend the best fit.

  • Unused sessions: carry over into the next calendar year, but count towards that year's 10-session cap.

Other referral pathways we accept
  • GP Chronic Condition Management Plan: up to 5 allied health sessions per year, which can be used for psychology or with our dietitian. Please state how many sessions are for each.

  • Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan: up to 40 psychological and 20 dietetic sessions in a 12-month period.

  • Non-directive pregnancy support counselling: up to 3 sessions per pregnancy with a psychologist.

  • Autism assessments: for patients under 25, a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist may allow a partial Medicare rebate.

  • Non-Medicare referral: an informal recommendation, with no Medicare claim or mental health record created. Your patient can see any of our practitioners, including our psychotherapists and integrative health practitioners.
