Integrative Natural Therapies at Unburden Psychology
At Unburden Psychology, we believe mental and physical health cannot be separated. That is why we have integrated naturopathy, acupuncture, and Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) alongside our psychology services, giving you access to a truly whole-person approach under one roof, in Brisbane.
Naturopathy: Understanding the Root Cause
Recent research into the gut-brain axis has confirmed what naturopaths have long understood: that physical and mental health are not separate systems, and that treating one without the other often leaves people stuck. Naturopathy focuses on identifying and treating the underlying drivers of health imbalance, rather than managing symptoms in isolation. Using nutrition, herbal medicine, and lifestyle support, naturopathy creates sustainable, long-term change tailored to your unique physiology.
A key part of this process may involve reviewing your general or functional pathology results, providing a deeper and more comprehensive picture of your health. For example, gut microbiome analysis can reveal microbial imbalances that contribute to anxiety, depression, skin conditions, inflammation, and chronic pain. Other advanced testing can shed light on heavy metal exposure, mould-related illness, and how effectively your body is metabolising hormones, guiding highly targeted, individualised treatment strategies.
Acupuncture: Because the Body Remembers
Acupuncture is particularly effective for trauma recovery including complex-PTSD, unrelenting anxiety, depression, chronic pain, digestive concerns, sleep problems, reproductive health, and stress-related conditions. It often provides faster symptom relief alongside the deeper, longer-term work of naturopathy and psychology, making the combination of modalities a powerful.
Rooted in a 5,000-year-old tradition and supported by a growing body of modern research, acupuncture treats the whole person — from the nervous system and fascia through to brain regulation. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture calms the stress response, reduces pain and inflammation, improves circulation, and restores the body's natural balance.
Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET)
NET is a mind-body technique that identifies and releases stored stress patterns held in the nervous system. These patterns, often rooted in past emotional experiences, can contribute to chronic pain, anxiety, physical symptoms, and behavioural patterns that are difficult to shift through talking therapies alone.
Integrated with acupuncture, NET offers a gentle and effective pathway to nervous system regulation and emotional release, and is particularly suited to clients who carry stress or trauma in the body as well as the mind.
Why at Unburden Psychology?
Suzanne's work is uniquely positioned within a psychology practice because the connection between emotional wellbeing and physical health is central to everything she does.
At Unburden, she works alongside a team of psychologists, which means your care is genuinely coordinated. Where psychological therapy would benefit your healing, Suzanne can facilitate a warm referral to one of our clinicians, and vice versa. This kind of integrated, multidisciplinary care is rarely available in a single setting.
It also means our approach is trauma-informed in the truest sense: not simply an awareness of trauma, but an environment where every practitioner understands how unresolved stress and past experience live in the body, and where treatment is designed with that in mind.
A Personalised Pathway to Wellbeing
We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model. Our therapists strive to ensure both partners are heard and their opinions respected, and that the couple choose how much therapist support they would like.
Some couples want a short, focused intervention. Others are navigating more complex or longstanding challenges. Many fall somewhere in between.
Our role is to provide the right level of structure, insight, and support without overcomplicating the process.
