Breathwork

One of the quickest ways to calm your nervous system, and a skill you keep for life.

Who breathwork can help

  • anxiety and panic, especially when your body reacts before your mind can catch up

  • stress and burnout

  • trauma, when your nervous system feels stuck in fight-or-flight

  • trouble switching off at night

  • anyone who wants quick, practical relief they can use anywhere

The benefits of breathwork

How you breathe sends a direct message to your nervous system. Slow, structured breathing is one of the few ways you can deliberately switch off the stress response, and the effects can be felt within minutes. Breathwork can help you:

  • calm a racing heart and ease the physical rush of anxiety or panic

  • release muscle tension in the jaw, neck, shoulders and chest

  • settle your mind enough to think clearly and make better decisions

  • wind down at night and fall asleep more easily

  • feel safer in your body, which is especially important after trauma

  • feel more in control, because it's a tool you always have with you

It's free, it's portable, and once you've learnt it, you can use it anywhere: in the car, at your desk, before a hard conversation or in the supermarket queue.

What to expect

Breathwork sessions teach you slow, structured breathing techniques that signal to your body that you're safe. You'll learn what works for you, practise it with guidance, and leave with simple techniques you can use whenever you need them.

Psychology & more

Why Unburden Psychology & More

Breathwork is one of our quick-relief options. Many people find it a good first step when they're too wound up to think about the bigger picture. Our psychologists already teach simple breathing techniques in therapy, and breathwork sessions give you more time to go deeper and really build the skill. It works well on its own or alongside therapy, acupuncture and our other services, and like our whole team, breathwork at Unburden is trauma-informed.
