Groups
You're not the only one. And realising that can change everything.
Group therapy brings together a small group of people working through similar challenges, in programs developed by our psychologists and led by our team. Each group follows a structured program, so you learn practical skills, try them out, and build on them week by week, alongside people who understand what you're going through.
Just as effective, in a different way
A lot of people assume group therapy is a "second best" or the “cheap” option to seeing someone one-on-one. While it may be more affordable, the research says it’s far from second best. A major review of more than 300 studies found that group therapy works just as well as individual therapy for a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, panic, trauma, eating disorders and chronic pain.
It just works differently. In individual therapy, the relationship with your therapist does a lot of the heavy lifting. In a group, the people around you become part of the change too.
Psychology & more
Why connection matters so much
We're wired for connection. When we feel understood and supported by others, we cope better, recover faster and feel more like ourselves. When we're isolated, both our mental and physical health suffer. One large study, drawing on data from more than 300,000 people, found that people with strong social connections were 50% more likely to survive over the study period than those with weaker connections. The researchers compared the health risk of being socially isolated to well-known risks such as smoking.
The tricky part is that anxiety, low mood, stress and trauma tend to pull us away from people, just when connection would help most. A group gently reverses that.
What a group can give you
-
You're not alone. Hearing others describe exactly what you've been feeling is often a huge relief.
-
Learning from each other. Other people's ideas, setbacks and wins can help you see your own situation differently.
-
Practice in a safe setting. You can try new skills with real people, not just talk about them.
-
Hope. Seeing others make progress is a powerful reminder that change is possible.
-
Helping others. Supporting someone else in the group can do wonders for your own confidence.
-
Momentum. A set program and a group who are expecting you can make it easier to keep showing up.
-
Value. Groups are often a more affordable way to get psychological support.
What to expect
Our groups are small, developed by our psychologists and led by our team. They're closed groups, which means the same people stay together from the first session to the last, so trust can build. Before you join, we'll have a short chat with you to make sure the group is a good fit. Everything shared in the group stays in the group, and you only share what you're comfortable with.
Groups work well on their own, or alongside individual therapy with your own psychologist.
Feeling nervous?
That's completely normal. Almost everyone feels a bit anxious before their first group session, and most people tell us that feeling fades quickly once they realise everyone else in the room felt the same way. You won't be put on the spot, and our facilitators work hard to make sure everyone feels safe and welcome.
